VIETNAMESE DRAGON FRUIT PRICE UPDATE – OCTOBER 2026: PRICE TRENDS AND SUPPLY OUTLOOK FOR INTERNATIONAL IMPORTERS

Vietnamese dragon fruit prices reversed course and increased in September 2026 after reaching very low levels at the end of August. Based on current developments and a comparison with price trends in previous Octobers, Vietnamese dragon fruit prices are expected to continue rising in October 2026, particularly for fruit meeting export requirements for size, appearance, and quality.

Vietnamese Dragon Fruit Prices Show Strong Fluctuations Ahead of October

After falling to around VND 2,000–3,000/kg at the end of August, dragon fruit prices in Dong Thap recovered significantly in September. By mid-September, Grade 2 red-flesh dragon fruit was being purchased at the farm-gate level at approximately VND 23,000–25,000/kg, while lower grades also increased compared with the beginning of the month.

This is a notable signal for the October market, as prices appear to have bottomed out and shifted into a recovery trend ahead of the new month. However, these figures are farm-gate purchasing prices; actual export prices will be higher and depend on quality, size, packaging, and delivery terms.

October 2026 Dragon Fruit Price Outlook: Upward Trend

Price movements in October have not been exactly the same from year to year, but 2025 is a notable case when prices fell sharply due to abundant supply combined with difficulties in market demand.

There is a key difference in 2026: prices have recovered strongly from their September lows and are entering October with an upward trend. Meanwhile, the main harvest season is gradually coming to an end, which may lead to tighter availability of high-quality fruit.

Therefore, the base outlook for October 2026 is that dragon fruit prices will increase compared with the price levels at the end of September. The increase may be more pronounced for fruit that is attractive, uniform, and suitable for export. This is a market-trend forecast rather than a fixed price level, so actual prices may still change depending on production volumes, weather conditions, and actual demand.

Why Could Dragon Fruit Prices Increase in October?

Two key factors are currently supporting the upward price trend.

First, the market has recovered from the low-price period. As farm-gate purchasing prices rise again, there is a basis for prices in early October to remain higher than during the end of August and beginning of September.

Second, export-grade supply may become tighter. During the rainy season, the proportion of visually attractive fruit meeting higher grades tends to decline, while export orders continue to focus on consistent size and appearance. This could cause prices for export-standard fruit to rise more significantly than those of conventional commercial-grade dragon fruit.

Vietnamese Dragon Fruit Supply in October

Dragon fruit supply in October will continue to come from major growing regions in southern Vietnam. However, for international importers, the key consideration is not only total production volume but also the ability to supply the specific type of fruit required.

Requirements regarding size, color, appearance, and quality standards can result in different levels of suitable supply for each import program. Therefore, importers should monitor supply by product segment rather than applying a single price level to the entire market.

What Should International Importers Do When Prices Are Rising?

Against a backdrop of expected price increases, importers should determine the required dragon fruit type, size, quality standards, and packing specifications early, then request quotations based on a specific delivery period.

For import programs with fixed schedules, confirming supply early can give importers greater control over pricing and delivery planning, particularly for dragon fruit meeting export standards.
