According to the Central Highlands, pepper prices in Dak Lak and Lam Dong decreased by VND1,000/kg, currently at VND152,000/kg. Gia Lai recorded a price of VND149,000/kg, VND1,000 lower than yesterday.

In the Southeast region, pepper prices in Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai both decreased by VND1,000, trading around VND151,000/kg, while some purchasing points in Dong Nai dropped sharply by VND2,000, down to VND148,000/kg – the lowest in the country.

This development shows that after a period of overheating, the pepper market is adjusting to balance demand and supply. Despite the decrease, the current price is still significantly higher than the same period last year, continuing to bring profits to farmers.

World pepper prices

In the international market, pepper prices recorded differentiation by region. In Indonesia, Lampung black pepper prices decreased slightly to 7,074 USD/ton, while Muntok white pepper also adjusted to 10,024 USD/ton. In contrast, the price of Brazilian pepper ASTA 570 remained at 6,500 USD/ton, while Malaysia also remained stable with black pepper at 9,700 USD/ton and white pepper at 12,900 USD/ton.

In particular, Vietnamese pepper showed a positive trend in the export market. The price of 500 g/l black pepper increased to 6,600 USD/ton, 550 g/l reached 6,800 USD/ton, while white pepper increased to 9,250 USD/ton. This is a fairly strong increase, reflecting high purchasing demand from many markets, especially when the year-end festival season is approaching and the USD is weakening. According to analysts, the downward adjustment in domestic pepper prices may only be short-term. The export market still maintains high demand, while the supply in many key producing countries has not improved significantly. Therefore, Vietnamese pepper still holds a competitive advantage, both in price and quality, in the final period of the year.
