Pepper Price in June: : Market Remains Stable as Exporters Strengthen Origin Compliance

The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) has recently requested its member businesses to strengthen control over origin declarations, product labeling, and Certificate of Origin (C/O) application procedures in accordance with regulations, in the context of Customs authorities stepping up inspections to prevent origin fraud, counterfeit origin, and illegal transshipment of exported and imported goods.

Domestic pepper prices remained stable on June , ranging from VND 136,000 to VND 139,000 per kilogram. Meanwhile, the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) has urged exporters to strengthen controls over product origin, labeling, and Certificate of Origin (C/O) documentation to ensure compliance with increasingly stringent customs regulations.

Domestic Pepper Prices

According to market updates from Vietnam’s major pepper-growing regions, prices remained unchanged compared to the previous trading session:

  • Dak Lak: VND 139,000/kg
  • Gia Lai: VND 137,000/kg
  • Lam Dong: VND 139,000/kg
  • Ho Chi Minh City: VND 137,500/kg
  • Dong Nai: VND 137,500/kg

Overall, the domestic pepper market continues to trade steadily. Actual transaction prices may vary depending on product quality, trading volume, transportation conditions, and payment terms.

VPSA Calls on Exporters to Strengthen Origin Compliance

In response to increased customs inspections aimed at preventing origin fraud and illegal transshipment, the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) has advised its member companies to review and strengthen their export compliance procedures.

Exporters are encouraged to ensure that product origin information is accurate, complete, and consistent across all export documentation, including customs declarations, commercial invoices, bills of lading, Certificates of Origin (C/O), and other supporting documents.

Additionally, companies should maintain comprehensive records covering raw material sourcing, production processes, processing activities, and origin verification to facilitate customs inspections when required.

Proper Use of “Made in Vietnam” Labels

VPSA also emphasized strict compliance with Vietnam’s labeling regulations.

Products that do not satisfy Vietnam’s rules of origin—particularly those made from imported raw materials or subjected only to simple processing within the country—must not be labeled with statements such as:

  • Made in Vietnam
  • Product of Vietnam
  • Origin: Vietnam
  • Manufactured in Vietnam

Improper origin labeling may result in customs delays, administrative penalties, or other legal consequences.

Exporters Should Review Their Supply Chains

To meet the increasingly stringent requirements of international markets, VPSA recommends that exporters:

  • Verify the origin of raw materials.
  • Assess whether processing activities conducted in Vietnam satisfy applicable rules of origin.
  • Ensure that all Certificate of Origin (C/O) applications are truthful and accurate.
  • Maintain complete documentation for customs verification and origin inspections.

Shipments suspected of origin fraud, illegal transshipment, or inconsistent declarations may be subject to physical inspection, on-site production verification, or post-clearance audits by customs authorities.
