Fresh ginger is considered a great spice that can be used conventionally in Vietnamese cuisine. Ginger is also considered a traditional medicinal herb. Therefore, ginger has been consumed in large quantities in Vietnam. Furthermore, ginger in the international market is also being sought after and imported in large quantities to serve advanced, modern countries that do not have the conditions to develop this plant.

Vietnamese ginger is highly appreciated for its quality and has a warm, aromatic taste that is favored by many countries such as the US, China, Japan and Europe. That has created a great opportunity for Vietnamese ginger to be available worldwide.

According to statistics compiled by the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association in September 2023, Vietnam’s ginger exports reached nearly 26 million USD, an increase of 3 times over the same period last year. The countries that import Vietnamese ginger the most are Australia, India, Pakistan and European countries.

For example, in Australia, Vietnamese frozen ginger has just been sold in supermarkets, stores, and online channels. The price of Vietnamese ginger in Australia is about 9-13 AUD per kg (150,000-200,000). Ginger is packaged in half a kilogram or one kilogram mainly for restaurants.

In addition to fresh ginger, Vietnamese processed ginger is also consumed quite remarkably, especially candied ginger is a popular type of snack.
